Implementing smoke free spaces in st Lucia is double standard. Hence my reason. We go out in the different communities, churches and school’s telling the young people that smoking is not good smoking can kill. Yet we want to provide smoke free spaces. We also provided them with reasons to match why it is not good to smoke yet these same people a providing them with a smoke free space. There should not be no smoke free spaces in st Lucia. But in the privacy of one’s own home. Practice what you preach. Second hand smoking can lead to COPD and death.

I believe that people have the freedom to do what they wish with their bodies how ever it should not affect others so there should be smoke free space implemented on island or smoke zones can be implemented where smoking is only allowed at that designated place

It is necessary …In everything there has to be limits and this is just another example …not everyone u meet is a smoker for whatever reasons (choice, health etc) …having smoke free spaces will help in the sense that one knows that if they come to that area , they won’t be bombarded with the smell or smoke ..a breathe of fresh air for lack of a better phrase …it might even feel like a balance of sorts …..and hopefully most people will be content …people love feeling important and included and that is one way to do that

I think all indoor and the majority of public spaces should be smoke free. Designate smoking areas outside buildings for smokers to utilize.
Second hand smoke is bad for your health.

I am in full support of the implementation of smoke free spaces in St. Lucia however there must be a means of dealing with violators. It makes no sense to charge people and encourage a build up of charges further putting a bigger burden on our inefficient justice system.

Implementing smoke free spaces in St.Lucia is very detrimental to the environment therefore I think we should look to provide an example and make that first step to transition to a smoke free environment. In that case we want to support people who are trying to quit as well as support and model positive health behavior for children and the youth.

The legislation of smoke free spaces is imperative and long overdue. Although, people reserve the right to smoke or not, the state should mandate that they exercise that right in a manner that will not compromise the health of those who choose not to smoke. Too often, people are exposed to second-hand smoking in public places such as the bus shelter, on the street corners, etc. This act, in my opinion is offensive. Also, in some instances, some smokers demonstrate a blatant disregard for non-smokers. When these non-smokers object to this trespass, they are met with disrespect and rudeness.
Second-hand smoking is harmful and even deadly. According to research, the inhalation of second-hand smoke can be more detrimental to the (bystander) second-hand smoker than the first-hand smoker.
Therefore, I applaud the discussion on this topic and endorse the idea to provide smoke-free spaces in St. Lucia. This provision will make the air cleaner, safeguard non-smokers against the possibility of medical conditions brought on by exposure to second-hand smoking and at the same time, allow persons who smoke to do so in appropriate places.

Implementing Smoke free areas is not a bad idea. However the smoke free ares should be the only place people are allowed to smoke. They should not be allowed to smoke in the open. Smoking is not good for the health yet some people still do it. However, the smokers should respect the life of other and not ample around people as second hand smoking can kill too. So, the smoke free area is a great idea.

Implementing a smoke free environment for Saint Lucia and Saint Lucians will be a very positive thing on everyone we can also do work shops to sensitize us about the health risk of tobacco as well and even programs to help persons who wants to quit as well. I’m in full support of this

I support this people should be able to smoke where it’s not harmful to others and places where they can drop they smoke butts, but this arenas should be hidden to keep away from the eye of children that way we wouldn’t be exposing children to smoking at a young age. Self-employee people who sell smoking stuff should stay in these areas so that they can benefit themselves and not out there roaming the streets, no person isn’t 20 and over SHOULD NOT be smoking, shouldn’t be allowed to enter these places and neither buying smoking stuff. I see to much of grown up giving young kids/School children OCB to go with.

Smoke Free Spaces from our current social context is an important signal point for the need to provide more healthy public spaces.

Such a move should not be a stand alone policy, and should be accompanied by sensitization within the media and in the areas where these zones may be established, for example restaurants, bars, and buses.

There should be a clear connection with the adverse effects of smoking on public health, as well as ensuring personal actions/choices do not infringe on the rights and well-being of others.

The messaging within this campaign should be bilingual- embracing Saint Lucian Kwéyòl and English.

There must also be consultation and participation from stakeholders in commercial operations who are necessary in advancing the smoke free zones. In this way we want to ensure that if for example if there are a majority of patrons at an establishment who are smoking that their economic contribution does not negate adherence to the no smoking zone.

I have observed that smokers are generally very insensitive to others and feel like you have to get out of their smoke trail even if you are at your own home. The free space should be smoking in the absence of anyone within 1000ft. Creating free spaces causes congregation and persuasion of non smokers to join this bad practice. We have a broken society and this does not help. Why not put any smoking legislation to referendum? The country will reject it.

You give some St.Lucians an inch, they take a feet. If persons want to smoke, it should be at their home. Smoking definitely is not good.
